Operating since 1904, the Ponca City Library was initially organized by women of the Twentieth Century Club, who set up the city's first library in an insurance office. The first dedicated library building was constructed through the generosity of Andrew Carnegie in 1910. Today the library is home to the Gordon Matzene Art Collection — a substantial donation made in the 1950s that includes oils, charcoals, and watercolors, as well as three-dimensional bronze and pottery pieces from the era of the Boxer Rebellion.
